Here's everything you need to know about Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship (BAMTC)
THIS YEAR WILL see the inaugural season of Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship (BAMTC) which begins on 14th February in Vietnam. A total of 13 teams will be seen competing for the title and India are placed in Group D along with Korea and Singapore.
The tournament will have one of each category played, women's and men's singles, men's and women's doubles.
Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu will spearhead the women's singles category and both the shuttlers have begun their season on a high by clinching the first title they played. Saina won the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold while Sindhu lifted the India GPG title. Saina is slowly getting back to her best form while Sindhu continues her momentum from 2016.
Besides these two stalwarts, Tanvi Lad and Rituparna Das are also part of the women's singles team.
On the other hand, India GPG men's singles winner Sameer Verma and HS Prannoy will play a key role in their category. Kidambi Srikanth has decided to skip the tournament.
In the men's doubles category Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy and young pair of Satwiksairaj/Chirag Shetty will be seen in action.
World No. 14 duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Sikki Reddy will look to continue their form and win matches for India at the BAMTC while Sikki will also be in action for women's doubles with Ashwini Ponnappa.
Korea could pose a threat for India as they are seeded No. 2. The Indian contingent look strong and will be expected to put up a fight.
The other groups are: Group A -- China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong; Group B -- Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka; Group C -- Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines.
