East Bengal sign Australian Christopher Payne to replace Amirov

CURRENT I-LEAGUE LEADERS EAST BENGAL confirmed the signing of Australian striker Christopher Payne. He becomes the fourth foreigner in the team and fulfils the Asian quota. The other three foreigners are Wedson Anselme, Willis Plaza and Ivan Bukenya.

Kyrgyzstan’s Ildar Amirov was released by the club recently. 

“His (Christopher's) contract has been done. We have applied for his visa,” ,a club official told IANS.

• Payne has won the Australian League with Sydney FC in the 2009-10
• Earlier played in the A-League teams Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets

Payne's experience will come in handy for the first Kolkata derby against Mohun Bagan on February 12, should the needed formalities be complete by then.
