India GPG: Ashwini/Sumeeth ousted top seeds Joachim/Christinna to enter finals; will face Pranaav/Sikki

IT WAS A TERRIFIC performance from mixed doubles duo of Ashwini Ponnappa/Sumeeth Reddy at the India Grand Prix Gold as they enter the finals. The seventh seeds defeated top seeds of Joachim Fischer/Christinna Pedersen in a hard-fought thrilling three game encounter, 19-21, 21-18, 21-18.

Playing the top seeds from Denmark, the Indian duo were under pressure and as they lost the first game they were in the back foot. But Sumeeth/Ashwini showed some amazing grit and determination to get back and win the following two games to cause the upset of the tournament.

Now it's going to be an all Indian final as Sumeeth/Ashwini will play against Sikki Reddy/Pranaav Jerry Chopra. The second seeds defeated 5th seeds Mathias/Sara 21-18, 21-13. This promises to be a great finale.

Meanwhile, Sameer Verma defeated Harsheel Dani 21-15, 21-11 to set up a clash against Sai Praneeth. Praneeth defeated third seed Kidambi Srikanth in three games. After being down in the first game, Praneeth pulled an upset by displaying top class performance to defeat compatriot and enter the final.

This tournament looks like it will be the first win for PV Sindhu this year as she enters the final after beating Fitriani Fitriani 21-11, 21-19 to face unseeded Gregoria Mariska.
