Play-by-Play: Aizawl FC claim the season's first NE Derby, overcome Lajong 2-1 as the visitors miss a penalty

THE HIGHLY POPULAR North-East Derby, first of the season, clinched Aizawl FC as their extende their unbeaten at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Salem Veng, Aizawl. Lajong succumb to their third defeat in a row.

Lajong, again, going with the trend of playing majority under 22 players, did start brightly as they kept the home team on the heels. The visitors were awarded a penalty. They spot kick was well judged by Albino who made a one handed save to deny Lajiong the lead.

After that penalty, the home side was all fired up and upped their game. The result of their efforts came through a goal by Lalruatthara. At the break Aizawl lead to a single goal.

In the second period, both teams got good chance as the game got more physical. Rane double the home team's lead and looked cruising. But a penalty given away by a rash foul gave Lajong to chance to get back in the game. They scored and the game was on. But in spite of number of close range free kicks no further goals would be added to the scoreline.
