A Tata Football Academy product, Rai was picked up to play for Dempo SC. He was conditioned playing with the Dempo youth teams before finally making his debut for the first team in 2015. Vinit, with Dempo, won the I-League second division but the club pulled out of the I-League and the team that finished 2nd in theI-league, Minerva Punjab got promoted.
Vinit was part of the runner up ISL team Kerala Blasters team and is currently on loan to Minerva. The 19 year-year old plays in the midfield and has been part of every minute of the I-League for his club so far.
