A collective team effort from the Rockets help them defeat Bengaluru 4-1; go on top of the points table

MUMBAI ROCKETS continue their unbeaten run in the Premier Badminton League as they defeated Bengaluru Blasters 4-1 in Bengaluru.

A collective team effort from their shuttlers help they reach the top of the points table with 16 points.

The tie began with Sourabh Verma playing the in-form HS Prannoy. Sourabh showing off some domination early off, winning points in a row helped him put Prannoy under pressure as he took the first game 11-4 in his favour.

But it wasn't too far that Prannoy made a comeback as he still holds the record of unbeaten men's singles shuttler in the tie. He won the following two games 11-6, 11-3. This season of Premier Badminton League has seen the best performance from the shuttler. If he continues this form at the international outing after PBL, it will really boost his confidence and slowly show in his rankings.

As expected the men's doubles was a cracker and the Blasters pair Ko Sung/Yoo Yeon wins 11-7, 7-11, 11-5 defeated Lee Yong Dae/Nip to get their team back in the tie.

Viktor Axelsen was up next to play his trump match against Ajay Jayaram. The Indian has been in great form this season as he gave a good fight to Axelsen and taking the match in straight games 11-8, 11-9 cutting out the trump for the Blasters.

Losing the Trump meant negative point to Bengaluru, therefore the scores were 2-0 in favour of the Rockets.

Women's singles shuttler Sung Ji had the chance to seal the tie for her team as she was playing the trump against Cheung. And as expected the World No. 3 did not disappoint her team as she won the trump and put her team in a formidable lead of 4-0.

It was all over for the Blasters but they still had the chance of earning some points with the mixed doubles match and the winning combination of Sikki Reddy/Ko Sung gave a point to their team. A complete domination over the Rockets pair of Nipithphon/Zieba, winning the match in straight games 11-6, 11-7.

This win put the Mumbai Rockets on top of the table with 16 points.
