Silly changes to the winning combination cost Chennai Smashers the tie; lose 2-5 to Acers

WITH UNUSUAL changes from the Chennai Smashers cost them the tie as they lose 2-5 to Delhi Acers in the Premier Badminton League encounter.

The first match to begin the tie was between men's singles Jan O Jorgensen and Tommy Sugiarto. The way Jorgensen began the first game with good control, it didn't feel like Tommy would take the first game but he did that. From trailing in the start, the Indonesian came back strong to win 12-10.

Too many errors in the second game saw Jorgensen get back in the match by taking the second game with ease 11-4 to his name. The Dane didn't give up and came back quickly to get some points to his name that left Sugiarto way behind and finally Jorgensen took the final game 11-6 and put his team in the lead, 1-0.

After a night of unusual action in the Bengaluru vs Hyderabad yet again today we saw a strange pairing in the mixed doubles for Chennai Smashers. Chris Adcock was paired up with PV Sindhu and they were up against Vladimir Ivanov/Jwala Gutta. And then with the heroics from Chris, the Smashers pair took the first game 11-7 to their name.

A good performance from the Acers pair to get back in the match, winning second game 11-4 to push it to the decider. Ivanov finally finding his shots along with the help of Jwala won the game and the match 11-9.

This put Delhi in the lead by 2-0. The second men's singles match was crucial for the Smashers as Parupalli Kashyap was up against Son Wan Ho. The Indian had good start but with series of errors, he gave away the first game 10-12 to Son Wan.

Son Wan being the dominant performer in the second, didn't allow Kashyap to get back in the match. A repeat of what took place in the Korea Masters as Son Wan took the game 11-4 and put Acers in a good lead of 3-0.

The men's doubles could have sealed the tie for the Acers as Ivanov/Ivan Sozonov were playing the trump against Mads Kolding/Chris Adcock. And they did exactly that as it was an easy task for the Russians to win the match in straight games 11-6, 11-6 and wins the tie for the Acers.

The final match of the night was the trump for the Smashers as Sindhu was up against Tanvi Lad. And it was an easy match for the Olympic Silver medallist as she won 11-6, 11-7 to pick up two points for the team.

With that two points, Chennai sit on the third place on the points table.
