Play-by-Play: Udanta shines as Bengaluru get an easy 3-0 win over Shillong Lajong at Kanteerava

A MEMORABLE BRACE from Udanta Singh helped Bengaluru FC get off on the right note in their title defence with a 3-0 win over Shillong Lajong.

The game was a bit slow from the beginning, with BFC controlling most of the posession and Lajong happy to give them that much of a leeway and play it safe.

Bengaluru FC were making regular runs up the flank and testing Vishal Kaith, the Lajong keeper, but it wasn't until near the half hour mark when a corner kick taken by Harmanjot Khabra caused a massive scramble inside the box with Vishal completely off the line that Udanta got a hold of it and rammed it into the net.

The second half began with much of the same, and soon it was 2-0 to the home team. Udanta, with an individual effort, received a pass, made a cross into the box, himself ran in to receive it and knocked it in with his left foot, leaving everyone in the box dumbstruck.

Then towards the end of the game the third goal came from Sena Ralte, whose first touch piledriver from outside the box left Vishal rooted to his spot and went straight in.

Shillong Lajong, despite trying hard and making numerous collective efforts to hold back Bengaluru FC from scoring, never looked like they had a chance to get something out of this game.

It was a methodical performance from the Blues who have now proven that their amazing AFC Cup form has not left them, and they are coming for the league title once again.

Here's how the match unfolded, narrated in blow-by-blow detail in our real time match coverage...
