INDIAN FAST BOWLER Ishant Sharma was yet again amid an altercation with some of the Sri Lankan players during India’s second innings on Day 4 of the third Test at SSC.
The incident occurred in the final over of the Indian innings which was being bowled by pacer Dhammika Prasad. The Lankan bowler hurled a series of bouncers, which were ducked by Ishant. However, Prasad went overboard with a third bouncer, which was promptly declared a no-ball by the umpire. Once that was done, Prasad bowled another short delivery, and Ishant took a single from it. As he ran past Prasad, here’s what he did:
Ishant gestured Prasad to hit him on the head by tapping on his helmet. Prasad, on the other hand, mumbled a few words and Ishant walked straight up to him. The duel also caught the attention of Dinesh Chandimal, as well as that of the other batsman on crease, Ravichandran Ashwin. Soon, the umpires confronted Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews and asked him to calm his players down. However, Prasad wasn’t done yet. He bowled another bouncer, fourth of the over, of which Ishant took a single. The final ball saw India getting all out, Prasad dismissed Ashwin. But that wasn’t the end. Ishant went running towards the dressing room, and he was followed by Prasad.
The Sri Lankan second innings resumed and Ishant was all pumped up. First up, he got rid of opener Upul Tharanga, followed by Chandimal. This is how he reacted after getting Chandimal’s wicket:
