PBL to partner with CRY-- Child Rights and You

PREMIER BADMINTON LEAGUE 2 is not going to be just about the game or about victories and losses; it is taking up a noble cause as well to make optimum use of its tremendous star power and reach.

Late on Wednesday here, the PBL management announced that it has joined hands with CRY- Child Rights and You, to raise awareness about the need to educate every child in India.

Among other things, the League will be conducting auctions in which top players’ autographed merchandise will be up for grabs. The money raised will be funneled to CRY to carry out its mission.

“We are very excited about partnering with CRY which is one of the most successful home grown Social Cause Organisations. We want to help people understand the importance of education in a child’s life. We believe that when a child stays in school he/she gets an opportunity to become a champion in life- Academics, arts, sports. We will conduct auctions, involve players, host charity shows and whatever else we can do to help educate our children,” Prasad Mangipudi, Director of SportzLive who are the force behind PBL-2, said. “Education is the only route to a better way of life,” he added.

The Regional Director of CRY, expressed her gratitude to see an important entity like the PBL backing them.

“We are delighted to partner with the Premier Badminton League as cause partners. It is a giant step forward in our aim to achieve the education goals we have set for our country’s children,” Suma Ravi said.

“Lack of basic infrastructure and shortage of teachers at schools are two of the main reasons why so many children don’t have access to primary education,” she added.

Recent studies show that over 2,80,000 elementary schools in India still do not have toilets for girls. Over 5 lakh schools still do not have a proper boundary wall and there is a shortage of 9.4 lakh teachers in government schools in India.

CRY has been working at the grassroots level for over three decades with heart-rending success.

“We have witnessed the change in children’s attitude and approach towards education when there are basic amenities and quality teaching staff. Our campaign ‘Right to School’ hopes to transform schools into learning environments,” Suma Ravi said.

The PBL has also committed to sport the CRY logo on all PBL Tee-shirts, including those of the players, during the League. It has also devised a plan so that people can become part of this noble cause and contribute on their own. Badminton fans can add an extra amount while buying tickets online for the matches as well.

“We are confident that the entire country will offer a helping hand to every child in need,” Prasad Mangipudi added.
