Myneni gets a wild card entry for the 2017 Chennai Open

INDIA’S Saketh Myneni has been handed a wild card entry for the 2017 edition of the Chennai Open. Although Myneni has gone down the rankings due to injury, the current World No.194 along with local boy Ramkumar Ramanathan will lead India’s challenge at the ATP 250 event.

Myneni who earned rich accolades for making his debut in the main draw of the singles event in New York this year will be making his fourth appearance in Chennai.

Talking about the wild card entry, the Hyderabadi lad told PTI,

"I am thrilled to get a wild card entry into the Aircel Chennai Open so early. I have enough time to prepare for it now. This is India's biggest tennis tournament and I love the electrifying atmosphere at the SDAT Stadium.”

SP Misra, Chairman of AITA Selection Committee and former Davis Cup Player also expressed his views,

"I am delighted that two wild cards have been awarded to the top two Indian Singles Players -Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan. Both of them have played Davis Cup for India this year with great distinction. The Aircel Chennai Open gives Indian Tennis Players a chance to improve their International Ranking and prepare for the 2017 season."

Besides the Indian representatives, the field will be led by leading ATP professionals in Marin Cilic, Bautista Agut and Benoit Paire. Unfortunately, for the fans in Chennai, multiple time champion Stan Wawrinka won’t be featuring this time as he will be heading to Brisbane.
