Play-by-Play: a three-three thriller leaves both Chennai and NEUFC's campaigns in deep trouble

AN ABSOLUTE THRILLER of a contest unfolded at the Marina Arena tongight as Chennaiyin FC were held to a 3-3 draw by NorthEast United.

Chennaiyin FC were the ones who started stroner and controlled the game most of the time, but thanks to some superb goalkeeping from Subrata Paul it was 34 minutes before the home team got a break through.

But after Dudu scored the first goal the floodgates opened. Twice Dudu scored and twice Nicolas Velez brought NEUFC level. Then after Subrata had to be subbed due to an injury, Dudu scored again with 10 minutes left in the game. It appeared thanks to his hat-trick Chennai would seal this game.

But in the very last moment NEUFC found yet another equalizer and it came from defender Shouvik Ghosh. A memorable 3-3 draw meant that neither team got the leap into top four that they wanted. NorthEast United are now 5th with 15 points from 12 matches, with difficult chances of making it to the playoffs. Chennaiyin FC, meanwhile, are more or less out of contention with 15 points from 13 matches.
