Play-by-Play: NEUFC come back from behind to hold DDFC to a draw, remain top of the table

A GRITTY GOAL from Emiliano Alfaro cancelled out a fantastic finish from Kean Lewis as Delhi Dynamos and NorthEast United finished 1-1 level tonight.

Delhi got their lead in the 38th minute when a corner kick found the Mohun Bagan winger lurking near the goalmouth. Lewis, with a quick one-two, left two defenders dumbfounded as his light touch sent the ball soaring into the net.

Delhi were ahead at half time, but in the second half the visitors incrased pressure with multiple counters, and balls aimed at Nicolas Velez and Emiliano Alfaro. Quite a few chances went begging throughout the game but finally, a ball from Velez went to Alfaro, who was inside the box and took the shot, it came back to him deflected off a defender and this time he put it at the back of the net.

With most of the second half still to go, both teams tried hard to get a second goal but did not manage to find it. In the end, it seemed both head coaches were ready to accept a draw rather than risk a defeat. The match ended 1-1.

This means NorthEast United are still top (10 points from 5 games) and Delhi Dynamos are still unbeaten (5 points from 3 games). Both have a few crucial home games coming up that could define their season.

Here's how the exciting encounter unfolded, narrated in detail through our blow-by-blow update of the game as it happened...
