UFC Brasilia results and review: Cyborg dominates again

THE UFC BRASILIA card proved to be yet another platform for showcasing the dominance of Cris Cyborg. The Invicta FC Featherweight champion secured her second UFC win at the expense of Lina Lansberg. Cyborg was dominating throughout the fight and it was surprising to see Lansberg make it to the second round.

Lansberg was using the clinch to stay away from the monstrous punches of Cyborg and despite taking a beating, she hung in there. In the second round, the same story repeated. Cyborg was landing some heavy kicks early on and soon took Lansberg to the ground, where she secured a finish through TKO. In the post-fight interview, Cyborg said that she wants to put super-fights for her fans.

Upsets in the undercard

Eric Spicely came into UFC Brasilia as the biggest underdog on the card against Thiago Santos. However, the entire UFC fan base was shocked when he finished Thiago Santos in the first round itself. It was a rear-naked-choke that did the job for Spicely.

The Paul Feder vs. Francisco Trinaldo fight, meanwhile, ended in a doctor’s stoppage. After a well-contested two rounds, the doctors had to stop the fight due to a huge cut that Feder suffered above his eye. Graphic pictures of the same were later posted by Dana White and this showed that it was the right decision to stop the fight. Trinaldo gave a heart-warming post-fight interview and with the win, extended his winning streak to seven fights.

Nelson puts Silva to sleep

The Heavyweight fight between Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva was expected to be a full-blown barn burner. Both fighters did deliver. The first round of the fight was evenly matched with a slight advantage to Silva, who landed kicks throughout. The second also seemed to be heading a similar direction until Nelson countered a low kick attempt from Silva with a huge uppercut. Nelson then pounced on fallen Silva until the referee called for a stoppage.

Nelson was not happy with how late referee John McCarthy stopped the fight and decided to flip the bird and give a kick to McCarthy after the fight. Nelson also expressed his frustration at the late stoppage in the post-fight interview. As for Silva, this could well be his last UFC match as he was apparently going to get cut after his last loss.

Barao is back

After two back to back defeats, the fight against Phillipe Nover was an important one for Renan Barao. He needed a win so badly and that’s what he went away with after three great rounds against Nover. The Featherweight fight did not have a flashy finish, but it did give Barao his first win in the Featherweight division.

Barao took the first and second round pretty comfortably while Nover stepped up his game in the third. The second round in particular, was a good one for Barao who landed good combinations and a flying knee. As the fight went the distance, it was an easy decision for the judges to give Barao the win.
