Darryl Duffy reaches Kolkata to join pre-season practice at Mohun Bagan

SCOTTISH STRIKER Darryl Duffy arrived in Kolkata this morning to join the pre-season efforts of Mohun Bagan.

Duffy, who has played in the Scottish Premier League for sides like Rangers and Hibernian and been a part of Hull City and Swansea City squads during their lower league days (Championship and League One), has been in India since 2013 when he joined Goan club Salgaocar.

At Salgaocar he has been fairly effective as their main striker, scoring 32 goals in the I-League over 3 seasons. He played a major role in the club's narrow survival from relegation in the 2015-16 season. One of the best strikers playing in the Indian top division league, he also did a loan spell at ISL franchise FC Goa in 2015.

But now that Salgaocar have decided to withdraw from the I-League, Duffy had to seek out a new club. And he has chosen the Federation Cup winners as his next destination.

Speaking to the Mohun Bagan official website, Duffy said,

"I am absolutely delighted to be joining Mohun Bagan. Whatever I have seen Mohun Bagan over the last few seasons, I am very impressed with their playing style. They play fantastic attacking football and to be a part of that side, especially as a striker, is very exciting!"

Duffy will be Mohun Bagan's main striker during the upcoming 118th edition of Calcutta Football League. Brought in to replace Cornell Glen, Duffy is also likely to be there in January when the I-League season kicks off. The Scotsman is likely to make his first appearance for the Mariners when they play local side Peerless FC in a pre-season friendly tomorrow.
