It’s been a crazy few days in the combat sports world and things just got crazier when Eddie Alvarez defeated Rafael Dos Anjos via TKO in the first round to become the new UFC Lightweight champion. UFC Fight Night 90, which had an interesting card did live up the expectations.
It started off with a 25-second win for Joseph Duffy, who post-fight put forward his case to be in the MGM card. UFC newcomer Belal Muhammad then produced a potential fight of the night contender against Alan Jouban but the latter managed to take the win thanks to two good rounds.
Roy Nelson and Derrick Lewis then locked horns in a mammoth clash that no one expected to go beyond the first round due to the sheer power that both men carried. However, they did go the distance and it was Lewis that took home the win via decision.
The main event of the night proved to be equally shocking. Alvarez ended the match in the first round after he produced a flurry of hands followed by a huge right hand that got Dos Anjos wobbling. Alvarez then continued to bash the champion brutally before referee Herb Dean stopped the fight and gave the win to Alvarez. Here are the results from UFC Fight Night 90.
UFC Fight Night 90 Results:
- Joseph Duffy defeated Mitch Clarke via submission in first round
- Alan Jouban defeated Belal Muhammad via unanimous decision (28-27, 29-27, 29-28)
