Career Slam complete: Paes-Hingis win the French Open title, trumps Sania-Dodig

A PROUD MOMENT for the veteran Indian tennis ace Leander Paes as he completed his 'Career Slam' in the mixed doubles category along with his Swiss partner Martina Hingis at the French Open on Friday.

The Indo-Swiss pair engaged in a hard-fought match against compatriot Sania Mirza/Ivan Dodig 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Unseeded pair of Paes/Hingis were first set down after which the fans thought he might lose out on the title as Sania/Dodig looked strong but the veterans displaying they have more experience of playing tennis came back and took the following two sets to claim the title.

The 42-year-old Paes had won Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open titles in 2015 with Hingis.

It was his 18th Grand Slam title and 10th in the mixed doubles category. For the 35-year-old Hingis, it was the 22nd Grand Slam title and fifth trophy in the mixed doubles.

The winners split 116000 Euros as prize money while Sania and Dodig got 58000 Euros as a team.
