AIFF meets club representatives and IMG- Reliance to strategize a road map for Indian football

THE All India Football Federation (AIFF) met with the representatives of clubs and IMG-Reliance in Delhi today, to strategize a roadmap for the future of Indian football. 

As per the reports, post the meeting, the following points came to light. 

There will three divisions of Indian Football from 2018: Top Division will be called ISL. Two teams from the I-League will feature in the competition, but the names of those teams are yet to be revealed. Second division which is currently, I-League will be called LEAGUE ONE and third division, which is second division of l-League will be called LEAGUE TWO. There will be no promotion/relegation in the top tier. However, league one and two will have promotion/relegation. 

Furthermore, the Federation Cup will be renamed to Indian Super Cup from 2018 and a total of 28 teams will participate. In this tournament, teams from ISL, League One and League Two will take part. Champions and runners-up will then get a chance to play in the AFC cup. 

The Indian football calendar from 2018/19 season will see three separate leagues running from September to March. Also, the ISL clubs will have to meet the AFC licensing criteria. There were also reports that, a few more teams might join the ISL. 

 League One will be telecasted on Star Network’s sports channel and all matches will be streamed digitally. League Two too will be broadcasted digitally.
