Rohit will do what is right for the team, says MI head coach Ponting

MUMBAI INDIANS HEAD COACH Ricky Ponting said that team skipper Rohit Sharma, who moved to the middle order against Sunrisers Hyderabad, is willing to bat as any position as per the team’s need. When asked whether the MI skipper would play at two-down from now onwards, the former Australian skipper told PTI,

“You see that’s the beauty of Rohit. He is willing to do what is right for the team. We decided last night to bring in Martin Guptill up the order. The captain also had made it clear at the start we will pick teams as per the conditions. Whether he will play at no.4 throughout, I don't know.”

The defending champions have managed to win just one of three matches so far this season. The Aussie batting legend also conceded that their batting unit had failed to maintain a high-level performance. Ahead of the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday, the Aussie coach also rued not having played to the full potential.

“We have not been able to play 40 overs of good cricket. We probably have played 30 overs of good cricket in all the games. That's not good enough. We have to be consistently better and longer if we want to win Wednesday's game.”
