Conor McGregor Announces ‘Retirement’, Will Not Complete In UFC 200

UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor has literally broken the internet today by saying ‘I have decided to retire Young’ from his official Twitter account.

Conor, who was scheduled to face Nate Diaz at UFC 200 in one of the highly anticipated rematches in the history of UFC, dropped this ‘retirement’ bombshell on Wednesday and has pushed the sporting world into a sense of shock and confusion.

The Tweet that broke the internet

According to the word around the block, Conor made such a decision due to the recent death of an MMA fighter in Ireland. Conor’s coach John Kavanagh added fuel to the whole retirement fiasco with the following Tweet.

Conor was cage side when the death happened and he wrote the following on his Facebook account after the incident.

“To see a young man doing what he loves, competing for a chance at a better life, and then to have it taken away is truly heartbreaking. We are just men and women doing something we love in the hope of a better life for ourselves and our families. Nobody involved in combat sports of any kind wants to see this. It is such a rare occurrence that I don’t know how to take this.”

A good portion of the fans still thought that this was just a joke from the champion, but Ariel Helwani, who is one of the most respected names in the MMA world came out and suggested that Conor was indeed serious.

Dana White might be fuming inside

If this was not enough, just hours after the announcement of Conor, Dana White officially announced that Conor McGregor was removed from the UFC 200 Main event and confirmed that they are looking for a new main event for the milestone pay-per-view. White, however, said that he was removing Conor from the main event because Conor failed to show up for the pre-fight appearances.

"Conor didn't want to come to Las Vegas and be part of any promotional training. He's in Iceland training. He felt leaving right now would hurt his training. But every other fighter on the card is coming. It doesn't make you exempt. We spend a lot of money on this stuff."

White also commented on the retirement Tweet of Conor.

"Is Conor McGregor retiring? Only he can answer that question. I don't know. But he will not be a part of UFC 200,” He said.

A lot of conspiracy theories have been rolled out thanks to this tweet from Conor with the most interesting one connecting him to WWE.

WWE superstar and Conor’s Irish companion, Becky Lynch invited Conor to join WWE and at the same time, Conor recently followed Triple H and Stephanie McMahon on Twitter with Stephanie following him back.

Another theory suggests that Conor is going to join hands with the legendary boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. after Floyd announced his intentions to embark into having a promotion in MMA.

Is Floyd and Conor upto something?

While everyone was seriously trying to dig out the reasons for all this chaos, former WWE champion, and current UFC talent CM Punk found the funny side of things.

Nate Diaz, who was scheduled to face Conor at UFC 200 also tweeted in a cryptic manner without giving much away.

The whole scenario is yet to be sorted out and hopefully, we will get a clear picture soon.
