I'd preferably open but we will see later where we stand: Rohit Sharma

MUMBAI INDIANS’ SKIPPER Rohit Sharma has not been in the greatest of form lately and given that the IPL is just a day away, the flamboyant batsman needs to regain his prime form at the earliest. MI like always will heavily rely on Rohit scoring runs at the top and it will be interesting to see how the 29-year-old responds in days to come.

However, MI coach Ricky Ponting showed great faith and confidence in Rohit and has backed the skipper to come good in the IPL.

As reported by DNA, the former Aussie captain said,

"Rohit is one of the best players in the world and I think he has shown that over a long period of time. One thing about this game is that it is very hard to maintain exceptionally high standards all the time. There will be a period in your career when you will have your ups and downs. We all know how good a player Rohit is and he will show over the next few weeks.”

As we have seen in the previous two seasons, Rohit has been flexible in the batting order and has not refrained from opening the batting. Looking ahead into IPL-9, the Mumbai lad is ready to play a similar role.

“A lot depends on what sort of balance we need for the team. Being the captain, it is my responsibility to go with the right balance. We have spoken that I will start the innings and see how we stand after four-five matches,” added Rohit.

"We have a great set of batsmen, got some exciting players in the auction, we have got a little bit of headache as to who we should pick in the 11 and make X, Y, Z bat wherever they want to. I'd preferably open but we will see later where we stand.”
