We have good cover just in case Malinga misses out, says MI bowling coach Bond

THE MUMBAI INDIANS are likely to miss the services of marquee bowler Lasith Malinga for the first half of the upcoming Indian Premier League.

The Sri Lankan has been a match winner for MI over the years and is still one of the leading wicket-takers in the cash-rich tournament.

Meanwhile, MI’s coach Shane Bond feels that his team has enough depth to replace Malinga.

As reported by IANS, the Kiwi said,

"Nothing changes like in any injury that is the depth of the squad. When it comes to IPL during the course of time, there were 16 players, so you cannot rely on one player. The owners and Ricky Ponting (head coach) have done a good job in recruiting couple of fast bowlers in the side. So, we have cover for him. If he arrives fit, he will surely fit into our squad. If he doesn't, we have good cover for him.”

The defending champs will start kick-off the ninth edition of the IPL against debutants Rising Pune Supergiants at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday and it will be interesting to see who fills Malinga’s boots.
