Adrian Mutu says he was approached by multiple ISL teams, but chose Pune
THE MARQUEE PLAYER OF FC Pune City in the Indian Super League (ISL) Adrian Mutu was in conversation with fans via Skype in a press conference held in Pune on 6th August during the unveiling event.
The fans turned out in great numbers and asked their marquee player questions ranging from why he chose to play in India to whether he win the title for Pune in his first year itself.
"I want to win it and as a player that's I want to do and looking forward to it,"
He also said that he is honoured to play under coach David Platt whom he grew up watching and admiring. He is excited to be in India and play for the Pune franchise, he wants the fans to come out in great numbers and show their support.
"I do not know much about India but after first season (of ISL) and its impact on Europe I thought that it is something I want to try. I want to be part of this beautiful programe, show my skills and teach the kids in India how to play football,"
He is top scorer for Romania and has scored around 250 goals. He has played for English and European clubs like Chelsea, Juventus and Fiorentina, to name a few. When asked what his mindset would be as a captain, he said,
"I don't know if I'll be the captain as it is not my decision but if I am then as a captain I have a lot of responsibilities. I have to be and give my best in everything and I will try to do that and not disappoint."
One answer to which the fans cheered the most was when he said,
"There were other (ISL) clubs that approached me but I chose FC Pune City. I was told that the staff and the club are good people to be with so I chose Pune over other teams."
Towards the end the fans gathered there chanted Muttu's name and welcomed him with great pleasure.
