Kashyap to return to the court after two weeks of rehab

MARRED WITH YET ANOTHER INJURY, Indian men's singles shuttler Parupalli Kashyap will need at least two weeks to make a comeback to the international circuit with full fitness.

Kashyap had retired hurt midway through the German Open pre-quarterfinals, suffering a knee injury during his clash against eighth seed Son Wan Ho of Korea which comes as a blow to his Olympic qualification.

He was already racing against time when he was back on the court at German Open after recovering from a series of injuries, which derailed his preparation for the road to Rio.

"It's an MCL grade 1 strain on the right knee. I will stay out of the All England and Swiss Opens," Kashyap said.

"It could've been worse but all the strengthening of the last month and the knee brace helped me to escape a very serious injury," he added.

The Indian is now likely to be back at the court at the India Super Series in New Delhi.

"I should be back on the courts after two weeks of rehab and strengthening," he said.

His ranking has dipped to 17 from No. 8 owing to his series of injuries that started in October last year during the French Open. He participated in the India GPG but was took up an abdominal strain and bowed out of the tournament in the quarter-finals. Thereafter he missed the Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) and the South Asian Games (SAG) so that he could regain his fitness.
