Dravid excited to lead young Delhi Daredevils team

FORMER INDIAN CAPTAIN RAHUL DRAVID has been appointed as the mentor of the Delhi Daredevils for the upcoming season of the IPL. For a few weeks now, the Delhi franchise was in talks with Dravid and today finally, the Delhi management made the decision to rope in the established and proven mentor.

Dravid recently coached the Indian U-19 team to the finals of the World Cup in Bangladesh and also enjoyed a very successful stint as a mentor with the now defunct Rajasthan Royals in the previous two seasons of the IPL.

Speaking about his latest assignment with the Daredevils, the 43-year-old said,

“For me it’s a privilege and honor to be associated with DD. I am looking forward to this exciting journey. I have played with Delhi in the IPL; they have always been a great unit. I am very excited to work with Delhi now. It’s a young squad and hopefully we can have a successful season going ahead.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Daredevils team director T A Sekar spoke about the role of Zaheer Khan in the team and added that the former Indian pacer will continue to play the role of a mentor.

“Zaheer has retired from all forms of cricket. He will continue to mentor young bowlers, he is raring to go.”

Speaking about the injured Indian seamer Mohammad Shami, Sekar added,

“We have to wait and see I don’t know what’s the real situation is with him. He is a wicket taker and even the Indian team is waiting for his comeback. I think, he is under the supervision of NCA.”

Besides, absorbing Dravid, the Daredevils today also roped in Paddy Upton as their coach.
