WORLD NO.213 Ramkumar Ramanathan beat world no.146 Marco Chiudinelli 6-4, 6-1 in round one of the ATP Cherbourg challenger today in France.
In the opening set, both men broke each other in the first few games, but held firm for the most part of the set. However, in the 10th game, the Indian made the first move by breaking his opponent and nailed the first set.
In the second set too, Ramanathan got the early break and led by 2-0. After that, it was one way traffic as the Indian pressed home the advantage by breaking the Swiss a few more times to wrap up the match in just 56 minutes.
Ramanthan served with a decent percentage on both his first and second serve, but Chiudinelli’s second serve came under the gun, which eventually cost him the match. At the end of it all, Ramanathan won 66 points overall as compared to his Chiudinelli’s 43.
Ramanathan will now play Adam Pavlasek in round two.
