DSK SHIVAJIANS registered their first ever I-League win as they defeated Mumbai FC 1-0 at the Balewadi stadium in Pune on Sunday.
Douhou Pierre scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute to give the hosts all three points.
With the win, DSK now have four points from five games, having won one, drawn one and lost three, whereas Mumbai have eight points from five games, with two wins, two draw and one loss.
Right from the start, the home team were in attacking mode.
Mumbai saw a quick 1-2 between Arata Izumi and Ozawa saw Arata clear on goal, but Subrata Paul pulled off an acrobatic save.
On the counter, Surchandra Singh threaded a ball into Douhou's path and the Cameroon international muscled his way through the defence before tearing the net with a strike for the edge of the 6-yard box to score DSK's first goal of the league.
From there on, the hosts defended well and went into break with 1-0 lead. Mumbai came back strongly in the second half, creating a lot of chances but failed to equalise. With the DSK defence standing tall, Mumbai failed to sneak through. The score line stayed intact as DSK got their first win in I-League history.
DSK next face Bengaluru FC on February 10 while Mumbai will take on defending champions Mohun Bagan on the same day.
