Lajong and Sporting seek to catch the big boys in the league table as they face-off with each other

SHILLONG LAJONG AND Sporting Clube de Goa will strive to continue the winning momentum when they face each other in a mid-table I-League clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

Both teams come into this contest on the back of a win and will leave no stone unturned to keep their winning streak intact. Sporting are fifth on the points table with four points from three outings. Lajong have the same number of points, but are a rung below their rivals on goal difference.

The Goan giants lost their season opener against heavyweights East Bengal 1-3 and then were held to a goalless draw by top flight new comers DSK Shivajians. However, they beat Aizawl in the last game to bag all three points.

On the other hand, Lajong kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 stalemate against Mumbai FC, lost their second outing to a powerful Bengaluru side 3-0 but somehow managed to scrape past Salgaocar FC 1-0 in their fourth round encounter.

Both teams have excellent strikers and it will be a test for both defences.

Sporting's Nigerian striker Odafa Okolie has already made his mark in the league and the season and he would relish the opportunity of having a go at the inexperienced Lajong defence. One would not be surprised if he pulls off something extraordinary on Sunday.

Lajong will have the services of their Brazilian striker Fabio Pena, who scored their winner against Salgaocar and will be on the lookout for more if he gets chances on Sunday.
