Sindhu, Jwala/Ashwini enter pre-quarters of the Malaysian Masters GPG
THE WOMEN SHUTTLERS had a great outing in their first round matches at the Malaysian Masters Grand Prix Gold in Penang. 20-year-old PV Sindhu and doubles specialists Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa have cruised into the pre-quarters.
Sindhu 21-17, 21-16 defeated Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland while the doubles pair Jwala/Ashwini played a thrilling three-setter to win 21-14, 14-21, 25-23 over Mei Kuan Chow/ Lee Meng Yean from Malaysia.
The Indian duo next face Shizuka Matsuo/ Mami Naito from Japan while Sindhu will either play Iris Wang (Malaysia) or Kaori Imabeppu (Japan).
