Harbhajan in conflict of interest row

INDIA AND PUNJAB offie Harbhajan Singh finds himself in a conflict of interest allegation to which he has to respond by January 30.

A Mumbai-based activist Neeraj Gunde has alleged that the offspinner-owned company 'Bhajji Sports' supplies kits - match jerseys, practice jerseys, kit bags, to at least six state teams which arises a conflict of interest situation.

Gunde has complained to BCCI ombudsman Justice (retd) AP Shah.

"I'll respond to their concern when I receive anything officially. Once I get to know what exactly is the conflict of interest is here, I'll revert," the Mumbai Indians-player said.

Gunde, in a letter dated January 14 had pointed out the conflict of interest related to cricketers. According to reports Shah has sent an email to the following people, including BCCI president Shashank Manohar, general manager Ratnakar Shetty and Harbhajan, but the offspinner has denied receiving any such mail.

"It may have come to the BCCI," Harbhajan said.

The letter contains the following rules reelatting to the conflict of interest.

"Rule A, which states current cricketers shall declare the name and details of his/her player agent or the player management company; Rule B, cricketers shall not have any business interest in a player management company; Rule C, cricketers shall not have any conflict arising with the BCCI apparel sponsor and Rule D, cricketers shall not accept any controlling position in any commercial organisation having a contract with the BCCI or its state unit(s)."

"It is very clear from the above context that Mr. Harbhajan is conflicted in C & D of the code. I request you to initiate action," Gunde concluded.
