Myneni loses spot in Australian Open main draw, goes down to Basic

WORLD NO.166 Saketh Myneni lost a tough final qualifying round for the Australian Open main draw against World no. 137 Mirza Basic 6-3, 4-6, 6-8 in Melbourne today. 

The Indian served big and even fired 14 aces. Both men also came up with some courageous shots and didn’t commit too many unforced errors either. 

Myneni was also 2-5 down in the final set but hit back to get level the match. In the end, both men had won an equal share of 104 points each for the match, but it was the Bosnian who edged the Indian in tough battle in over two hours. 

After his hard loss, the 28-year-old said, 

“Tough loss in the final qualifying round of the Australian Open to the world number 137, Mirza Basic. Went down 6-3 4-6 6-8, in three close sets. Fought back from 2-5 in the third set to make it 5-5, but fell just short.”
