WORLD NO. 166 Saketh Myneni has beaten World no. 261 Lorenzo Giustino 6-1, 7-6(7) in the second round of the Australian Open singles qualifiers today in Melbourne.
The Indian will play the third and final round of the qualifiers tomorrow against World no. 137 Mirza Basic for a place in the singles main draw.
Myneni kept serving big and also won a handful of points at the net. The 28-year-old also converted 4 out of his 5 break point opportunities to edge his opponent. Although the second set was a tight affair, Myneni held his nerve to win it by 9 points to 7 and nailed the match in 85 minutes.
Myneni will have a wonderful opportunity to make his first ever Grand Slam appearance in the singles main draw event tomorrow.
