Santina enter Sydney International semis, on the cusp of world-record for longest winning run

SANIA MIRZA AND MARTINA HINGIS are on the threshold of creating a new world record for winning the most number of matches consecutively in the women’s doubles circuit.

After winning their quarter-finals against Chen Liang and Shuai Peng 6-2, 6-3 in Sydney today, Mirza/Hingis are currently sitting on a 28 match winning streak and have tied with the all-time record of Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, who won 28 matches in a row in 1994.

Sania and Martina, who are currently the top-ranked team in women's doubles, have won 10 titles together. They won titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Wimbledon, US Open, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Beijing and WTA Finals in 2015.

Santina will play their semis tomorrow and will have the opportunity to make history. The Indo-Swiss pair are continuing their dream run and have already started 2016 on a high by winning the Brisbane International last week.

Sania is also enjoying being ranked as the no.1 women’s doubles pair for 40 weeks now and no Indian male or female has enjoyed their time at the top of WTA or ATP rankings.
