Match Report: Gurusaidutt helps Mumbai Rockets hunt down the Hunters

MEN'S SINGLES SHUTTLERS Gurusaidutt along with HS Prannoy gave their team Mumbai Rockets a strong 4-1 victory over the Hyderabad Hunters who failed to win a single home game at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

Supanida gave the Hunters the first point of the match as she won against Liu Zi Die in an exciting three setter 13-15, 15-14, 15-14. Liu was playing her first singles match in the league and she looked strong but Supanida was just too good for her.

The men's doubles pair of Kido/Mogensen made it 2-0 after beating Chayut/Ivanov of Mumbai in straight sets, 15-7, 15-14. Mathias Boe, who was the regular shuttler in this category chose to sit out as he was unwell. This cost the Rockets those crucial points that Ivanov and Boe could provide.

Men's singles shuttler HS Prannoy brought back the hopes of Mumbai as he triumphed over Kashyap in straight sets 15-11, 15-13. It was the trump match for the Hunters and Kashyap continued his dismal performance which made the scores level at 1-1.

“This was a very important match for us as we had already lost the first two matches and I am happy to have opened our team’s account. This was a Trump match for them but we managed to snatch a victory now hopefully our team can concentrate and win the rest of the matches," said Prannoy.

Gurusaidutt won the trump match for his team and gave those much-needed points. He beat Siril Verma of Hyderabad 15-12, 15-4. The 16-year-old showed great grit in the match but experience and skill is what Gurusai possessed over the young shuttler. After this match, Mumbai looked in a comfortable position going into the final match of the tie.

The mixed doubles pair of Ivanov/Kamilla Juhl made that lead 4-1 after they beat Kido/Gutta in straight sets 15-8, 15-8.

The Rockets made a great comeback after trailing 0-2 as the Hunters ended their home matches with three straight defeats.
