ROBIN SINGH, the Bengaluru FC and national team striker, is set to be out of action for 6 months with an injury.

The forward was already dealing with fatigue issues after taking part in a hectic ISL campaign with Delhi Dynamos. He was also nursing an injury he picked up during the private tournament, on the back of his right knee.

While it wasn't restricting his movement or causing him pain, it was clear that he was being extra careful with his knee: during the practice on the day before the match with Sri Lanka, Robin Singh did not stretch his legs apart against a rubber band like his colleagues.

He started for India in the match against Sri Lanka and was in fine touch, scoring a brace that won the match for the Blue Tigers. But seconds after scoring the second goal he landed uncomfortably on his right foot and immediately went down in pain. It seemed like he had aggrevated the same old injury he had just recovered from. He had to be stretched off and after the match, the pitchside ambulance took him away to a hospital.

Afterwards, national team coach Stephen Constantine assured everyone that Robin's injury was not serious according to the x-ray reports. But he was rested from the squad against Nepal, and was seen to walk with a visible limp when he left the ground with the team.

Then on Tuesday it was announced that he was going to miss the rest of the SAFF Championship. By the time the news broke Robin was already on his way to Bangalore for further tests.

And now it appears that the injury is serious enough to force him to sit out the entire I-League season. This is undoubtedly a big blow to Bengaluru FC, who are preparing for not only I-League but a full-blown AFC Cup campaign starting February. The Indian national team, too, will miss him in the World Cup qualifiers away to Iran and home to Turkmenistan that are to take place in March.

Parth Jindal, CEO of Bengaluru FC, has since taken to the social media to show his support for Robin Singh. The striker has expressed his gratitude for the support and vowed to come back stronger.
