Zico predicts contest of equals; downplays home advantage, promises attacking game

FC GOA COACH Zico does not think that the home advantage will amount to much in the upcoming ISL final match against Chennaiyin FC.

Speaking to reporters on the day before the big match, Zico spoke highly of the Chennaiyin FC, saying that the final will be a match between equals,

"They are a team that has got to the semi-final by merit. They got to the semi-finals by a host of good performances. It is going to be an equal game."

That being said, he vowed not to leave any stone unturned in order to make sure the home fans do not go back disappointed. Zico said,

"Now that we have reached the finals we do not want to miss this opportunity to win the title in front of our home crowd who have supported us in good and bad times."

FC Goa have been involved in some high-scoring matches, some of which they have won and some they have lost. Zico has always favoured an attacking approach in the game and he said he will not be doing otherwise Sunday night,

“I think there is no reason to change the game. We have come so far playing this way so we will play the same way.”

A Goa vs Chennai match has always been an entertaining contest. So far the two teams have faced each other four times, and each team has won two matches each. And it has always been the away team that has clinched the victory. This year, Chennaiyin FC beat FC Goa 4-0 at Fatorda. But in the return leg at the Marina Arena, FC Goa beat them 2-0. Zico said that he has done his homework but is taking nothing for granted going into this match,

"I think we know the team well but we have lost two times. But the final is different. The ground is same, the ball is same. It will be a 50-50 game."
