Mumbai Garuda overpower Punjab Royals in PWL opener

MUMBAI GARUDA BEAT PUNJAB ROYALS 5-2 as the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) caught a brilliant start at the K.D. Yadav Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday.

Punjab could only win two games in the seven-bout tie with Georgian Vladimir Khinchegashvili (57kg) and Parveen Rana (74kg) registering victories over Rahul Aware and Pardeep Mor respectively.

But otherwise it was the sheer domination that stole the show for Mumbai, who swept home all the bouts in the women's section. 

Nigeri an Odunayo Adekuoroye (53kg) eased past Priyanka Phogat 10-2, while the United States' multiple world champion Adeline Gray (69kg) vanquish ed Belarussian Vasilisa Marzaliuk 10-2.

The other match involving Geeta Phogat and Sakshi Malik saw an 8-8 ending but the latter won because of more points at a stretch (four).

In the other men's categories, Odikadze Elizbar (97kg) overpowered Mausam Khatri 8-3, while Georgian Levan Berianidze (125kg) pipped Jargalsaikhan Chuluunbat 2-1 to give the win to Mumbai, who are having K.D. Yadav Stadium as their home.

On Friday, Uttar Pradesh Warriors will take on Delhi Veers.
