Delhi Daredevils sacks Gary Kirsten; Zaheer Khan likely coach-cum-player

AS THE IPL Governing Council prepares to announce the names of two new franchises for the 2016 edition, Delhi Daredevils is set for a major revamp in a new season.

Their coach for the 2015 season, Gary Kirsten, was sacked on Monday. In a media release the franchise said: “Delhi Daredevils would like to announce that they have ended their association with Head Coach Gary Kirsten after 2 IPL season.”

According to a report published in The Hindu on Sunday, it was said that Kirsten is likely to lose his coaching job, while Zaheer Khan may find the role of a coach-cum-player.

Kirsten's run with the Daredevils has been rather miserable. The South African had a torrid time managing a franchise by his own admission. GMR Sports, owners of the franchise, may also be looking for a new bowling coach for season nine. Alfonso Thomas had earlier replaced Eric Simons, but the management is expected to overhaul the support staff.

They had also roped in West Indian batting legend Viv Richards as batting consultant in 2013, but the team's poor performances continued.
