THERE IS NO DOUBT that T20 cricket is the flavor of our cricket-mad nation. Over the past few years, franchise-driven leagues have proved to be a major hit, and the appetite for more frenetic cricket by the consumers is encouraging corporates to launch such leagues at a rampant rate. That said, the biggest beneficiaries have been the smaller towns and villages of India. Cricketers coming out of these unknown pockets have had their talent noticed and have benefited from as many a rags-to-riches story reveals.

Today, the state of Rajasthan was given a shot in the arm after Wonder Cement Ltd launched the #Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav in Jaipur. The excitement and drama associated with 7 overs a side tournament will get underway from 19th December 2015.

This unique, cricket Mahotsav will see close to 40,000 cricket fanatics participating from 33 districts, over a period of four weeks. A staggering 3,984 teams will battle it out for glory in Rajasthan.

The entire objective of the tournament is to promote grassroots cricket and spot potential talent within the state. The organizing committee will also provide one year training at Wonder Cricket Academy in Udaipur for the three best-performing players from the tournament.

1983 World Cup winning captain, Kapil Dev, known for promoting and encouraging cricket tournaments across India, made his presence felt at the event.

The #Saath7 initiative promises some riveting action on the field and it will be interesting to see how the tournament shapes up. For the moment though, let’s just hope that the tournament can unearth some raw talent from the smaller localities of Rajasthan, which will eventually help Indian cricket.
