John Abraham enters Pro Wrestling League; joins Dharam, GMR for player auction

BOLLYWOOD ACTOR John Abraham, along with the Deol family of Bollywood and GMR Group will be the top attendees at the Pro Wrestling League player auction, as the best wrestlers from around the world go under the hammer in New Delhi on Monday.

Earlier in July this year, the Wrestling Federation of India, in a joint venture with Pro-Sportify launched the Pro Wrestling League in the presence of double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and CWG gold medallist Geeta Phogat. The league is slated to begin later this year.

Owners of the IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils, the GMR Group was announced as one of the owners of six teams on October 21. Yesteryear Bollywood legend Dharmendra also bought a franchise in the inaugural edition of the league. John Abraham, who already has a stake in a football team in the ISL (NorthEast United FC) and a hockey team in the HIL (Delhi Waveriders), will be looking to add another feather to his enterpreneurial cap with a wrestling franchise to his name.

Also making their presence felt at the auction will be Kartikeya Sharma, CMD and Vishal Gurnani, director of Pro-Sportify, the organizers as well as the promoters of the league, who have joined hands with the Wrestling Federation of India.  

The league is said to witness an amalgamation of over 100 international wrestlers from 25 countries that include Olympic and World Championship stars and 100 of India's best grapplers. The wrestlers include medal winners from European Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and other international wrestling events. 

The base price for Olympic and World Championship winners is set at 50,000 US Dollars. Each team will have a marquee player and will have an auction purse of Rs. 2 crore to spend. There will be 10 players in the team, including 4 women and each team can have a maximum of 4 overseas players and 6 Indians.
