Simon Katich named KKR assistant coach, to assist Kallis in IPL 2016

FORMER AUSTRALIAN cricketer Simon Katich has been roped in by the Kolkata Knight Riders as their assistant coach for the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Katich will be assisting former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis, who was recently appointed head coach of the two-time champions. An opening batsman, Katich played 56 Tests for Australia, and also led Perth Scorchers to title victory in the 2014 Big Bash League, before announcing retirement from the game.

Katich is currently involved with the Australian Football League club Western Sydney Giants as Operations manager. It is learnt that the Australian's name was recommended by Trevor Bayliss, former KKR coach, as reported in Mumbai Mirror. Katich has also played for IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, apart from assisting teammate Justin Langer at Perth.

Former Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram will continue as bowling coach for the Knight Riders.
