Lucknow Super Giants to pay a tribute to Mohun Bagan with special jersey in Kolkata

IN A FIRST OF ITS KIND move, Lucknow Super Giants will make their away match against Kolkata Knight Riders extra special by wearing a jersey that pays tribute to Mohun Bagan, one of the city's one three iconic multi-sport clubs.

The announcement was made today in a press conference in Kolkata where LSG players and management unveiled the commemorative jersey's design.

The move is expected to turn up the heat in Saturday's KKR vs LSG encounter since many of the sports lovers in Kolkata, who may have supported KKR, may now choose to support LSG because of their lifelong support for Mohun Bagan.

Lucknow Super Giants are owned by Sanjiv Goenka's RPSG, who are also the majority shareholders of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club's football division which is adopting the brand name 'Mohun Bagan Super Giant.'

This is the first time an IPL team has shared a sister-club relationship with an ISL team. In the past, the Royal Challengers Bangalore ownership had investment deals with Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, but their relationship was never used to make a prominent branding push like this.

On Saturday, LSG will play KKR in Eden Gardens and on Sunday, Mohun Bagan will organise a victory march to celebrate their ISL playoff and Calcutta Hockey League trophy wins this season; making this a rather active weekend for the die-hard Mohun Bagan fans.
