Mizoram Football Association kicks off its golden jubilee celebrations

THE MIZORAM FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION IS celebrating its 50 year anniversary this year.

One of the most remarkable success stories in Indian football, MFA's work over the last two decades has seen Mizoram become one of the powerhouses of Indian football despite the state's relatively smaller population.

The football body leveraged the sport's popularity in the state to launch the Mizoram Premier League (MPL), which became a catalyst for scouting and talent development for national level clubs. Soon, the Mizoram state team won the Santosh Trophy and Aizawl FC won the I-League. Players from Mizoram continue to play a huge role in the men's national teams and various clubs in Indian Super League, I-League and Indian Women's League.

To mark the beginning of the year-long golden jubilee celebrations, MFA released a special logo.

A statement from the state association said,

"The MFA Golden Jubilee Ceremony will take place on May 25 at Vanapa Hall. Players who have represented Mizoram, those who have represented the national teams and former MFA executives will attend the occasion."

The celebratory logo was unveiled by the renowened Dutch former player and coach Johan Neeskens, who is currently in Aizawl for a coach education programme.
