WATCH: PFL Challenger Series - Vikas Singh Ruhil loses to James Gonzalez via first round TKO

THE FIRST INDIAN fighter ever to compete at the Professional Fighters League did not make a big impact on his big moment.

Vikas Singh Ruhil, who came in with a 7 fight win streak, lost to James Gonzalez by TKO in the very first round.

The American fighter opened the bout with push kicks and leg kicks, using his superior reach to keep Vikas at bay. Vikas had trouble managing the range, but he did prove to be effective when he ran in to force a close range combat.

After taking a couple of shots, including an upper cut that landed flush on his chin, Vikas had a couple of moments of his own when he claimed the centre of the cage, then ran in to corner James by the cage and landed a flurry of punches.

But ultimately the most effective strike came from James in the form of a right hand that knocked Vikas down. James took top position and with nearly 2 minutes left in the round, had plenty of time to rain down punches on Vikas until the referee stepped in to stop the contest.

Vikas, who was seen by betters as the biggest underdog of the card, now has a professional MMA record of 12-7. James Gonzalez has moved to a 10-5 record, adding to his reputation of putting on entertaining, offensive performances.
