Cricket: Chetan Sharma steps down as India's chief selector following sting video controversy

CHETAN SHARMA HAS stepped down as the chief selector of the Indian cricket team.

He resigned days after a news organization published a secretly recorded video of him where he was heard making some controversial statements about the internal dynamics in BCCI and the Indian men's cricket team.

He made several statements that caused a furore in the cricketing world, including claiming that Virat Kohli was stripped of his captaincy because the then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly did not like him. He also made explosive claims that several Indian cricketers took injections to pass fitness tests and the management looked the other way.

Fans and former players across the country reacted negatively to Chetan Sharma's words, and it looked increasingly likely that he would not be able to continue in his position given the ongoing controversy.

Sharma has been the chairman of the selection committee since 2020. He was briefly removed from his post last year after India fell out of the World Cup but he was reinstated soon after. This time he has taken the initiative to quit by himself; making it unlikely he will return to this position any time soon.
