The 3rd match of the MasterCard T20 Trophy will be played between India and New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The match will start at 7:00 PM IST.
Before going into the saga of the third match let’s talk about the second T20 International match. The New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner won the toss and decided to bat first. The Indian bowlers bowled straight and fuller line and length. They just did not allow the new Zealand batsmen to get on top of them and the spinners particularly created a havoc. The New Zealand batsmen tried a lot of pedal sweeps as well as conventional sweeps but nothing seemed to be working for them. The outstanding performance of the Indian bowlers did a marvellous led to a restricted 99 runs, snubbing out 8 wickets on top of it.
In their chase for 100 runs, the Indian side lost 4 wickets for 70 runs. In the end Hardik Pandey and Suriya Kumar Yadav’s steady partnership got them over the line, making 101 runs in 20 overs.
Although India have had a good tight game but the pitch in both the games played so far in the T20 series was fairly substandard. I am all for a contest between bat and ball, but this much turn in an international level T20 match is unacceptable. The groundsmen needed to prepare a more hard pitch, a pitch with sufficient pace and Bounce. They extravagant spin did work for the spinners but it was unfair to the fast bowlers.
All said and done now both the teams are in an interesting space. By the virtue of winning the 2nd T20 by six wickets the series stands at one all, going into Ahmedabad for the last and final Mastercard T20 Trophy. Both the sides have the opportunity to take the series but it will come down to nerves and will favour the ones who have more steel.
In this last and final encounter the set of 11 players with control, technique and quick thinking will rightfully take home the trophy. But the positive for India is that they have a good record in deciders, winning ten of them in the recent past and losing just one. So gear yourselves up for a mouth-watering prospect on the fine pitch of Ahmadabad, provided we get a good playing surface.
