Domestic Duty: Dhoni to play limited-over local cricket to stay fit ahead of World T20

AFTER LEADING INDIA to a thrilling run chase in the 2nd ODI against South Africa, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has decided to keep himself busy even after the one-day series against the Proteas is over.

According to a report published in Bengali daily "Ei Samay", Dhoni will remain active in cricket even during India's Test series with South Africa by playing limited over domestic cricket for the first time in 10 years, in a bid to stay fit ahead of the upcoming World T20.

Since he has retired from Test cricket, Dhoni has decided not to play in the Ranji Trophy. Instead, he will focus on the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy, followed by the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which is played in the T20 format.

India's Test tryst with South Africa will end in December. The ICC World T20 will begin on 11th March, in India itself. So Dhoni's decision not to take a break and keep fit by playing domestic cricket for the first time since March 2005 has the potential to stand him, and the Indian team, in good stead.
