SPL 2022: Shillong Lajong dominate Ryntih SC in 5 goal rampage
AFTER A TUMULTUOUS start to the season, Shillong Lajong's fortunes turned around with a 5-0 win over Ryntih SC at the Shillong Premier League today.
The former Federation Cup finalists' battle with Ryntih SC, who recently played in the I-League Qualifiers, was one of the most anticipated clashes of SPL 2022 this season. In the first leg encounter, Lajong had beaten Ryntih 3-0, which was their first win of the season. Today they demonstrated that they had held onto that form and built on top of it.
Soon after the match began, SLFC opened the scoring through Everbrightson Mylliempdah, with Giddy Kharbuli doubling their lead barely 15 minutes into the game.
Glimpses of Lajong old glory were present throughout as they pressed harder in the second half, adding to the tally. Kharbuli got his second soon after the break, and Samuel Banlalpeka scored close to the hour mark.
With about 10 minutes left in the game, Everbrightson found the net again, sealing the 5-0 margin of victory.
With this win, Lajong have jumped three spots in the points table, now occupying the 4th place.
Ryntih SC's next match is against Malki SC, while Lajong must now prepare for a tough outing against league leaders Mawlai SC who had beaten them 1-0 in the first leg.
