Shillong Premier League: Ryntih SC go top with 3-0 win over Malki SC

RYNTIH SC ROSE to the top of the Shillong Premier League points table with a 3-0 victory over Malki SC at the MFA Turf in Shillong today.

The Mawlai-based club which made its national circuit debut at the I-League Qualifiers last year started their season in commanding style. They were in control of the game for the most part and if not for some wasted opportunities would have won by a larger margin.

Their first goal came just 14 minutes in when a diagonal through ball from the middle found Badon Kupar Marbaniang, who came in from the left unguarded. He skillfully got past the nearest defender and left fly, aiming for the near post. The Malki goalkeeper went for a full stretch dive to get to the ball but fell short.

Just before half time, Ryntih doubled their lead through a penalty. Captain Hardy Cliff Nongbri stepped up for the spot kick and perfectly executed it, sending the keeper the wrong way.

In the second half, just after the hour mark, Badon Kupar Marbaniang completed his brace netting a third goal for the Mawlai Mawdatbaki Fraternity-owned club when Malki set up an offside trap on a long ball from half-line but failed to get it right. Two Ryntih players broke past the defensive line and the keeper had almost no chance to keep that one out.

With this victory, Ryntih have bumped local rivals Mawlai SC (Who had beaten Nongkiew Irat 2-0 in the season opener) to claim the top spot of the league table.

Ryntih will return to action on 25th June when they take on former I-League club Rangdajied United in another early season crucial encounter. Malki SC will play their second match a day before that when they face Mawkhar SC.
