Kerala Premier League - BASCO and Kovalam notch up crucial wins

BASCO FC RE-ASSERTED their bid for a semi-final spot while Kovalam FC put some distance between themselves and the relegation spots today at the Ramco Kerala Premier League 2021-22.

The Group A match between BASCO and FC Areekode was more or less a one sided beatdown. BASCO asserted their dominance from early in the match and Mohammad Ashiq shined on both halves, getting his first goal at 37 minutes in and completing his hat-trick by the time the clock struck 80 minutes. It was not long before that Nasar completed his brace, giving BASCO a comfortable 5-0 victory.

This has put BASCO on 11 points from 5 matches, just 1 point behind second placed Kerala Police FC who are on 12 points from 6 matches.

BASCO FC's firing line has proved to be particularly effective in the recent matches, scoring 9 goals in the last 2 games. If they keep up the good form, they may be able to become a breakout contender for the title this season.

In the Group B game of the day, Kovalam FC defeated SAI in a more hard-fought match.

There were 3 goals in the first half itself. Just after the half hour mark, SAI suffered a lapse in defensive poise which was exploited by Stalin twice within 3 minutes. But just before half-time, SAI were able to get one back through Minesh.

The match remained competitive in the second half but SAI were unable to break the deadlock, allowing Kovalam to walk away with all 3 points courtesy a 2-1 win.

This is Kovalam's second win of the season but a vital one nonetheless. With 6 points from 6 matches, they have risen to the 5th spot on the table and created a nice 3 point gap between themselves and 10th placed MA College.

SAI are 7th on the table, but what will be worrying them is that they're still on 3 points, which is the same as MA College who are on one of the relegation spots as of now.
